Prime Minister Golob: Strengthening the public healthcare system is about creating better conditions

The renovation provides patients with modern accommodation, while staff benefit from improved working conditions. In the refurbished section, patients will be accommodated in double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, significantly enhancing their comfort and privacy. Staff now also have access to upgraded premises for preparing medicines, as well as modern shared areas. The entire building has undergone energy and structural rehabilitation and has been appropriately air-conditioned.

As part of the visit, the Prime Minister also viewed the final phase of the renovation of the Emergency Surgical Block (DTS, Phase 3c), where new operating theatres will be completed, and met with the hospital’s management.

In a statement to the media, the Prime Minister reiterated that healthcare remains a priority for this Government. “We will continue with this in the next term. A great deal has been achieved, but the work is not yet finished,” he said, thanking the hospital’s management and staff. He highlighted that renovating an operational institution presents a major challenge: “I am pleased to see that the management has found a way to ensure that, even during the renovation, the patient remains at the centre.”

The Prime Minister added: “When we talk about healthcare reform, we tend to focus on legislative changes. However, strengthening the public healthcare system is also about creating better conditions for patients as well as for staff. This project demonstrates that particularly well.”

The Director General of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Marko Jug, said the institution is completing the refurbishment of the final 700 square metres of operating theatres. “With this, the Emergency Surgical Block project will be completed and brought into use after more than twenty years, representing a major asset,” he announced. According to Jug, this marks an extremely important step for the future of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.
