Slovenian citizens currently in the Middle East
We are gathering data on the number of Slovenian citizens currently stranded in the Middle East, which is increasing by the hour. Estimates suggest that there are now approximately 1,000 Slovenian citizens in the broader region. To date, more than 700 people have contacted the MFEA for assistance with evacuation from the UAE. We take each request seriously and handle them with sensitivity – these are stranded individuals, some with families, and they are worried.
Regarding Iran, we currently have no record of Slovenian citizens contacting us to request consular assistance.
Citizens can contact the relevant embassies of the Republic of Slovenia and the Ministry’s on-call service for assistance and information, where staff are available to talk to them, provide guidance and offer support.
Evacuations and coordination with the EU
The European Union does not directly coordinate evacuations; this responsibility lies with individual Member States. However, Member States constantly exchange information and provide mutual assistance, including offering EU citizens the opportunity to use each other’s flights. This coordination occurs 24/7 through established communication channels and specialised online platforms.
Communication with Slovenian citizens
We communicate with citizens in crisis areas through every available channel: telephone, email, and in-person. Our colleagues are ready to help and can be reached by phone or email.
The MFEA’s emergency telephone number is available 24 hours a day, not just in the current situation. The same applies to the emergency telephone numbers of the relevant embassies, which travellers receive via text message.
We advise all citizens in affected areas or travelling to the region to regularly check official updates, follow local authorities’ instructions, and stay in touch with Slovenian diplomatic and consular missions. Most importantly, we advise them to stay safe and indoors, away from windows.
As of today, citizens can contact the 114 Call Centre for additional support
Citizens abroad, as well as their family members, relatives and friends in Slovenia, can obtain vital information from the 114 Call Centre. The Centre is intended to relieve existing lines at the MFEA and Slovenian embassies around the world (United Arab Emirates, Israel, Egypt, and so on) and provide faster access to answers.
The 114 Call Centre is available today, 3 March 2026, until 22:00 CET and tomorrow, 4 March 2026, starting at 8:00.

Risk levels for travel to individual countries
The MFEA constantly monitors the security situation in individual countries and adjusts its travel advice accordingly. In the event of any changes for high-risk countries or countries to which a large number of Slovenian citizens travel, the MFEA regularly informs the public via its website, social networks and the media.
At the MFEA, we are aware that there are always people behind the numbers. Therefore, we will continue to do everything in our power to provide Slovenian citizens with assistance, support and updated information.
