What if a castle told you who you were in the Middle Ages?

Two multimedia attractions now connect the castles along the Slovak-Polish border.

Using innovative, modern and immersive elements, a project funded by the Interreg Poland–Slovakia 2021–2027 programme introduces a new way of presenting the history of Stará Ľubovňa Castle and Muszyna Castle, the TASR news agency reported.

The mirror and the historical horoscope

The Magic Mirror and the Cosmogram transport visitors into a world of legends, witches and old tales.

The mirror appears to have a will of its own, selecting which historical figure to reveal to those who gaze into it. It can also visually connect visitors standing in Stará Ľubovňa with those in Muszyna at the same moment.

Using the Cosmogram, a kind of historical horoscope, visitors can enter their date and time of birth to learn who they might have been in centuries past, Dalibor Mikulík of the Ľubovňa Museum said.

Making castles more attractive

Both attractions are located in the Baroque Palace, making them accessible even during the winter months.

The project aims to enhance the appeal of both castles while strengthening links between tourist sites on either side of the border.

“People in the 21st century enjoy digital elements,” Mikulík said, as quoted by TASR. “But when it comes to exhibitions in castles, open-air museums, manor houses or other historical sites, we must be very careful in how they are used, so that they do not overshadow the monument itself.”
