Traders accused of destroying Abacha Street guardrails

 AYV News, August 22, 2025

The guardrails that were installed recently along the Sani Abacha Street in Freetown from Peterson Zochonis (PZ) to Eastern Police, have largely been destroyed and lay to ground, allegedly by traders doing business along the path.

Many people have blamed the ugly development on poor monitoring, maintenance and repairing of public assets by authorities responsible.

The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) sometime last year installed the rails for the protection of pedestrians, maintain free flow of traffic and further prevent petty traders from selling on the street.

Sani Abacha Street known to many as Abacha Street is the most busy business place in the east end part of Freetown. It is a densely populated shopping area in Freetown.
