Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has received a joint courtesy visit from representatives of the Mano River Union (MRU) Secretariat and the African Development Bank (AfDB), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration on peace, security, resilience, and sustainable development.
The meeting was chaired by the Hon. Deputy Minister, Mr. Buakai Bindi Hindowa, and attended by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Aminata Sannoh; the Chief Director, Mr. Charles Vandi; the Acting Director of Gender Affairs, Mrs. Hannah Robinson; and the Acting Director of Children’s Affairs, Mr. Daniel Albert Gbow.
Welcoming the joint delegation, Hon. Deputy Minister Mr. Buakai Bindi Hindowa expressed the Ministry’s appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation and strategic partnerships with both the Mano River Union Secretariat and the African Development Bank. He emphasized that sustained collaboration is essential to advancing gender equality, protecting children, and promoting lasting peace and sustainable development across the sub-region.
Discussions focused on the MRU Secretariat’s proposal to establish a Sub-Regional Observatory on Fragility and Resilience, an initiative designed to consolidate peace, strengthen security, and enhance resilience across the Mano River Union member states.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the MRU Secretariat and the African Development Bank to formally brief the Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, on the proposed architecture, objectives, and shared vision for the Fragility and Resilience Observatory.
Welcoming the initiative, Chief Director Mr. Charles Vandi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that advance gender equality, safeguard the rights and well-being of children, and contribute to lasting peace, resilience, and sustainable development throughout the sub-region.
The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs remains committed to fostering strategic collaborations that promote inclusive development, strengthen regional cooperation, and improve the lives of women, children, and vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone and across the Mano River Union.
