B.C. Pradhan, Indian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker, SegepohSolomon Thomas Esq., with a view to deepening diplomatic ties between the Indian and Sierra Leonean Parliaments. The visit underscores a shared commitment to fostering cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, technology and capacity-building.

Pradhan expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and delivered a goodwill message from India’s Speaker of Parliament. He highlighted India’s longstanding partnership with Sierra Leone, and cited initiatives in healthcare, education and infrastructural development. “India remains committed to supporting Sierra Leone’s growth through collaborative efforts,” Pradhan said, and explored opportunities for parliamentary exchange programmes and knowledge sharing.

In response, Speaker Thomas underscored the visit’s importance in enhancing bilateral relations. “The Sixth Parliament is eager to deepen ties with India, leveraging our shared democratic values,” he affirmed.

Discussions were focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary dialogue, advancing economic cooperation and addressing global challenges.

The meeting reinforces mutual efforts to promote cooperation and parliamentary exchange. Both sides expressed optimism about expanding partnerships in human resource development. The High Commissioner’s visit is seen as a milestone in bolstering India-Sierra Leone relations, with potential benefits for governance, trade and people-to-people ties.

The Indian High Commission and the Parliament of Sierra Leone are expected to formalize follow-up engagements to operationalise key outcomes of the meeting.
