The Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, Ibrahim Foday-Musa, conducted a strategic assessment visit to Lungi to evaluate ongoing preparations ahead of the upcoming ECOWAS Heads of State Summit 2026 scheduled for June.
The visit, undertaken on the directive of the Ministry of Health leadership through the Presidential Task Force, focused on both the rehabilitation of Lungi Government Hospital and the construction of the International Conference Centre.
At Lungi Government Hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Alusine B. Yilla, warmly received the Director and his delegation and led a comprehensive tour of key service areas including the Accident and Emergency Unit, triage, and inpatient wards. The focus is to construct the Accident and Emergency Unit, rehabilitate the triage and wards with medical equipment to serve as a standby for the upcoming Ecowas heads of state summit.The Director immediately engaged the contractor via phone, receiving assurances that the rehabilitation works would be completed by the first week of June 2026 in readiness for the high-level summit.
Following the hospital inspection, the team proceeded to the Lungi International Airport, where construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Centre is ongoing. The facility, being developed by FBI Group, will feature a presidential conference hall, villas, and dedicated medical spaces to support the international event. During the site visit, the Head of Operations for FBI Group, Mehmet Mehcan, introduced the project team and provided assurances that the facility will include a fully equipped medical room, along with an additional emergency space capable of accommodating up to four beds and essential medical equipment. The safety officer guided the delegation through the construction site, highlighting progress made and outlining provisions for medical preparedness during the summit.
The visit underscores the Ministry of Health’s commitment to ensuring that both healthcare infrastructure and emergency response systems are fully prepared to support the successful hosting of the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit, while also strengthening long-term service delivery capacity at Lungi Government Hospital.
