Direct Aid has initiated a poverty alleviation project in Bombali district, providing a means of livelihood to 33 vulnerable individuals, including women, youths, and physically challenged persons.
The €15,000 project supplied each beneficiary with a brand-new sewing machine and essential tailoring accessories.
Direct Aid Centre Director in Makeni, Nageeb Algabawi, stated that the project aims to equip vulnerable groups with the necessary support, enabling them to live dignified lives and contribute to society’s growth.
Bombali District Council Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Mark Babah Sisay, praised Direct Aid’s effort, describing the project as both a means of livelihood and an empowerment strategy.
The initiative aligns with the government’s human capital development agenda. He added.
Makeni City Council Mayor, Abubakarr Kamara, encouraged beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity effectively and assured donors of the council’s monitoring role.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support. Ahmed Kamara, a physically challenged individual, thanked Direct Aid for providing him with a sewing machine, enabling him to generate income for his family.
Marvel Veronica described the support as a felt need, stating that the machine would boost her tailoring skills and make her self-reliant.
Traditional leader John Bai Kamara commended Direct Aid, noting that the project would empower individuals and potentially reduce crime rates and drug addiction among youths in their communities.
By providing livelihood opportunities, Direct Aid’s project has made a positive impact on vulnerable communities in Bombali district, promoting socio-economic growth and development.
