AYV Media Empire journalist and education reporter George Batilo Powell has been recognised among the 100 Most Influential Youth Leaders in West Africa 2026, receiving the prestigious “Most Influential Change Maker” award for his impactful contribution to journalism.
The recognition was presented on 29th August 2026 by the Media Advocacy Network-Sierra Leone (MAN-SL) and the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).
Powell, who serves as an education reporter at AYV Media Empire, has built a reputation for using journalism to highlight challenges affecting Sierra Leone’s education sector, amplify the voices of pupils, teachers and education stakeholders, and draw public attention to issues requiring institutional intervention.
Beyond his professional journalism, Powell has also been using his initiative, School News Dissemination (SND), to create opportunities for young people and promote journalism and communication among pupils.
A second recognition presented to Powell on the same occasion conferred on him the “Global Peace Ambassadorial Title – 2026.” The certificate, issued by the International Association of World Peace Advocates.
