The Freetown City Council (FCC) has held a strategic engagement with waste service providers and community outreach teams as part of ongoing preparations for the rollout and enforcement of the city’s new waste management system.
The meeting focused on strengthening coordination with service providers and enhancing community sensitisation efforts across Freetown ahead of the implementation phase of the new system.
Discussions also centred on the Smart City Services payment platform, with stakeholders examining ways to improve public awareness on registration procedures, payment options, and compliance with the newly introduced Waste Management Byelaws.
Officials emphasized the importance of sustained public education and community participation in ensuring the success of the new waste management framework.
According to FCC representatives, the city is gradually transitioning from the awareness and engagement stage to full compliance and enforcement in the coming weeks.
Residents were encouraged to register with FCC-approved waste service providers and actively support efforts aimed at maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally sustainable Freetown.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to improving sanitation and strengthening urban waste management systems as part of broader efforts to enhance public health and environmental protection across the capital.
