The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone is currently participating in a two-week international seminar on Identifying and Monitoring Corrupt Practices, with 35 staff members undergoing specialised training in Beijing, China.
The programme, which runs from June 23 to July 6, 2026, focuses on strengthening professional capacity in corruption prevention, investigation techniques, monitoring systems, and the application of technology in anti-corruption work.
The seminar is sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and brings together participants for practical sessions designed to enhance institutional effectiveness in combating corruption and promoting accountability.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie, described the training as a timely opportunity for the Commission to acquire global best practices and strengthen its operational capacity in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.
He highlighted significant anti-corruption reforms implemented since 2018, including compulsory asset declaration requirements, stronger legal sanctions, prosecution in absentia, and the ongoing implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2024–2028).
According to him, these reforms have contributed to improving transparency and accountability within public institutions, while also reinforcing the Commission’s mandate.
Chinese officials at the opening ceremony commended Sierra Leone’s continued commitment to fighting corruption and promoting good governance. They reaffirmed their support for ongoing cooperation between both countries in strengthening integrity systems and institutional capacity.
The training is expected to further equip ACC personnel with advanced skills and knowledge to enhance corruption detection, investigation processes, and supervisory mechanisms upon their return to Sierra Leone.
Officials say the engagement reflects growing international collaboration in the global fight against corruption and underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening governance systems and public accountability.
