Two local businesswomen have been remanded to the Female Correctional Facility after appearing before Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on allegations of Conspiracy and Obtaining Goods by False Pretence.
The accused, Zanib Nadawa Kamara and HawaKamara, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha BrimaJah on charges contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons allegedly conspired to obtain goods from complainant Hassan Roque Junior Sesay under false assurances of payment.
The prosecution alleged that on January 24, 2026, at No. 131 Peninsular Road, Goderich, the two defendants obtained a quantity of merchandise, including 150 pull-up diapers valued at Le640 each, amounting to approximately Le251,000. The accused allegedly represented that the outstanding balance would be paid within two weeks, a claim prosecutors contend was false.
When the matter was called, no plea was taken from the accused persons as the case remains at the committal stage.
Prosecuting Counsel, Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, informed the court that the defence had been served with witness statements and other relevant documents relating to the matter.
Defence Counsel, M.M. Tejan Esq., told the court that his clients were exploring an out-of-court settlement and had initiated discussions with the complainant in an effort to resolve the matter amicably.
However, Magistrate Jah denied bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations, and ordered that both accused persons be remanded at the Female Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
The matter was adjourned to June 22, 2026, for continuation of the hearing.
