Snap Elections Remain Uncertain After Serbia’s No-Confidence Vote

Last week, a no-confidence vote was held in Serbia’s parliament in the Serbian Progressive Party-led government.

The motion failed. But for the opposition, it was still an opportunity to speak about the government’s affairs, and for experts, another discussion about when potential snap elections could be held.

Sixty-two opposition MPs submitted a request for a no-confidence motion in February. The first parliamentary session with such a motion on the agenda was scheduled for April – but the ruling majority failed to secure a quorum at two sessions held that month.

Until the no-confidence procedure was concluded, the standard legal process for calling snap elections could not begin.
