To mark the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth, the book “Planetary Tesla” written by Vlado Markanović was presented at the Press Centre of the Journalists’ Association of Serbia. Concurrently, a Ceremonial Academy was announced, to be held on 10 July at the National Theatre in Belgrade in honour of this great scientist and visionary.
The event brought together representatives of the media, cultural, and public life. Speakers addressing the significance of Tesla’s legacy included the book’s author, Vlado Markanović, Prof. Dr Radovan Pejanović, Prof. Dr Zoran Bingulac, and Prof. Dr Milivoje Pavlović.
Introducing the book, Vlado Markanović emphasised that it arose from the need to speak of Tesla not only as a great scientist but also as a symbol of creativity, freedom of spirit, and universal values.
“Nikola Tesla belongs to the world, but for Serbia, he is much more than a historical figure – he is a part of our identity and an enduring inspiration. ‘Planetary Tesla’ is a poetic homage to a man whose work has become the shared heritage of mankind, and a call to new generations to understand why his ideas remain just as relevant today as they were a century ago,” Markanović stated.
Speaking on the importance of celebrating major jubilees, Prof. Dr Radovan Pejanović stressed that the greatness of a society is reflected in the way it preserves the memory of its greatest creators.
“Tesla obliges us to believe in knowledge, creativity, and the power of vision. His work belongs to humanity, but it is our responsibility to present it with dignity and to bring it closer to younger generations. Culture and art possess a unique power to make Tesla’s legacy alive and relatable to every person,” said Prof. Dr Radovan Pejanović.
The conference also featured the presentation of the programme for the Ceremonial Academy, which will gather distinguished representatives of cultural, scientific, and public life at the National Theatre in Belgrade on 10 July. Through a blend of art, music, and stage performance, the Academy will pay tribute to the man whose ideas changed the course of world history and laid the foundations of modern technological development.
The commemoration of the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth confirms once again that his legacy is not merely a part of Serbian history, but a universal value that inspires new generations across the globe.
