The Novi Sad Musical Festivities (NOMUS) festival begins on Sunday, 18 October. This year, Nomus will feature five concerts, mostly taking place in the Synagogue, while one programme will be held in the Serbian National Theatre.
The patron of the festival is the City of Novi Sad.
This year’s Novi Sad Musical Festivities will once again bring together distinguished soloists and ensembles from our country and abroad. The programme will encompass symphonic music, contemporary piano creation, a fusion of classical music and jazz through new arrangements of well-known works, as well as music from famous Broadway musicals.
The festival will be opened by the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra with their chief conductor Aleksandar Marković and soloist Ivan Sendeckii, a young and talented Russian cellist. The programme they will perform connects works by prominent 20th-century creators (Dmitri Shostakovich and Igor Stravinsky) with contemporary works by internationally recognised and award-winning domestic authors (Aleksandra Vrebalov and Veljko Nenadić).
The following day, 19 October, the Synagogue will host the Luka Šestak Trio, featuring the German pianist who is renowned worldwide for his exceptional virtuosity and for having built a unique artistic style. His music intertwines jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, funk, and classical music. He is esteemed as an excellent improviser, performing all over the world and continually winning over new listeners.
The programme “Beneath the Surface” by pianist Nataša Penezić, which will be staged on 20 October, is dedicated to contemporary piano works. Almost all the compositions will be premiered at NOMUS, and some of the authors will join the pianist on stage to perform their pieces.
