European Night of Museums will be marked on Saturday, 23 May.
On this occasion, the Gallery of Matica Srpska will be open to visitors from 10:00 to 22:00, with free admission.
Programme
From 10:00 – Morning coffee conversations in the ceremonial salon with the Gallery Director, Dr Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, reflecting on the Gallery’s work, challenges, experiences, and what everyday museum life looks like.
From 11:00 – Visitors can attend the opening of the children’s exhibition “Once Upon a Time There Was a Painter: Lazar Vozarević”* and a performance by the Piccolo choir from Sremska Mitrovica. Throughout the school year, children explored the paintings of Lazar Vozarević, discovering stories expressed through the artist’s use of the magical power of visual elements and experimenting with various materials. Inspired by his work, they created their own artworks.
From 13:00 – A curator-led tour of the exhibition “Kaleidoscope: Kulić/Marinkov/Ugren/Solarov” will be given by Mirjana Brmbota, museum advisor and one of the exhibition’s authors. The “Kaleidoscope” exhibition was created from the need to view the Gallery’s collection from a new perspective, through the metaphor of a kaleidoscope. It interweaves the works of four artists of the same generation, who worked within the same cultural and historical context, yet developed distinctly individual artistic poetics.
From 15:00 – Art-themed social games will be available from 15:00 to 19:00, offering visitors a fun way to become acquainted with the collection of the Gallery of Matica Srpska.
From 17:00 – Students of the Isidor Bajić Music School, from the guitar class of Professor Aleksandar Spasojević, the piano class of Professor Jovana Spasojević, and the guitar class of Professor Stevan Jović, will perform works by A. M. Barrios, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Haydn, Nikolai Medtner, and many others.
From 18:00 – Visitors to Museum Night will have the opportunity to explore the inaccessible parts of the Gallery of Matica Srpska, including the conservation studios. Through conversations with conservators, they will learn how artworks are restored and conserved, using the example of paintings by Aksentije Marodić, which are being prepared for a major exhibition opening in the second half of the year.
From 19:00 – A curator-led tour of the exhibition “A View Through the Kaleidoscope of Contemporary Art” will offer the audience insight into the concept of the “Kaleidoscope” exhibition from the perspective of curatorial practice, with a special focus on its interpretation of contemporary art through the dialogue of four artistic poetics.
From 20:00 – Senior curator and exhibition author Msr Stanislava Jovanović Mindić will lead a guided tour of the exhibition “Two Centuries of Art in Matica Srpska”.
From 21:00 – A unique guided tour of the permanent exhibition of the Gallery of Matica Srpska with Vesna Farkaš, journalist and long-time collaborator of the Gallery.
