From 15 to 20 May, Belgrade will become a meeting place for children, artists, theatres and imagination, as the 20th edition of the Children’s Theatre Festival “Pozorište Zvezdarište” takes place.
Under the slogan “Two Stellar Decades”, the festival will be held at Teatar Vuk, as well as at Malo pozorište Duško Radović, Pozorište lutaka Pinokio, Biblioteka Moma Dimić and Biblioteka-galerija Branko Miljković.
The introduction to the 20th Zvezdarište will be the exhibition of children’s artwork “Imagine a Wish for the 20th Zvezdarište!”, opening on Thursday, 14 May at 11 a.m. at the Branko Miljković Library-Gallery.
The festival will begin in a lively and festive spirit on 15 May at 10 a.m., on the International Day of Families, with the traditional Star Carnival in front of Teatar Vuk.
The square will be filled with costumed preschool children from the “Sunčica” nursery, music, dancing, circus performers from the Inex Circus Theatre, sports and dance instructors from the Activity School of Sport, as well as numerous families and visitors. The star of the event will be singer-songwriter Zoe Kida, who will perform her children’s song “Love Me” and the Zvezdarište anthem in a carnival atmosphere together with the Actory Factory choir.
The official opening ceremony of the festival will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the main hall of Teatar Vuk, when the Festival Council’s annual award “Star Among the Stars” will be presented. This year’s laureate is Igor Bojović, playwright, dramaturge and screenwriter, long-serving director of the Pinocchio Puppet Theatre and Boško Buha Theatre, who sadly passed away prematurely last year.
During the six festival days, audiences will also enjoy three non-competitive performances, as well as a rich accompanying programme including interactive workshops, exhibitions, talks with authors, literary promotions, concerts, and programmes in which children and young people actively participate and create.
Among the productions featured in the programme are “The Three Musketeers”, “I Am Akiko”, “The Summer I Learned to Fly”, “Why Don’t They Care”, “Wonder”, “Aska and the Wolf”, “The Moon’s Guest”, “The Shine of Stars on the Ceiling” and others, all exploring important themes such as growing up, friendship, courage, imagination and freedom.
