Austrian Post to acquire D Express from United GroupSerbian Monitor

Austrian Post is set to acquire D Express, a company that has operated as part of United Group since 2021, it was announced today.

D Express issued a statement today confirming that an agreement has been reached between United Group and Austrian Post regarding the acquisition of D Express.

D Express and City Express – which is wholly owned by Austrian Post – will be merged into a single company.

This merger will create one of the leading operators in the postal and parcel delivery market in Serbia.

Austrian Post is acquiring a 100 per cent stake in D Express. As part of the transaction, employees, client contracts, and infrastructure will be transferred, including a logistics centre in Belgrade, 27 distribution centres, 45 parcel shops, and more than 300 parcel lockers.

“D Express enters this transaction from a strong market position. Investments in the parcel locker network, robotic sorting technology, fleet modernisation, and service quality improvements have made the company one of the most technologically advanced operators in the Serbian market,” the statement read.

In 2025, the company delivered approximately 14 million parcels using its own couriers and a fleet of around 800 vehicles.

“The completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Until then, D Express will continue to operate as usual under its existing management, and clients will continue to receive services under the same terms.”

D Express Chief Executive Officer, Vladimir Vidaković, stated that D Express is a robust company built on high standards and the expertise of an exceptional team.

“It is precisely this team and the network they built that represent the greatest value Austrian Post is acquiring. Together with City Express, we will offer a broader network and greater capacity for our customers, while our employees will have the opportunity for further professional development within an even larger organisation. Our clients can count on the same teams and the same high standard of service.”

Austrian Post Chief Executive Officer, Walter Oblin, noted that Austrian Post is executing a clear strategy of international expansion.

“Our goal is to grow in markets where we can generate genuine added value through our own expertise and a strong local presence. The acquisition of D Express represents an important step in the further development of our international parcel business and the sustainable strengthening of our position in South-Eastern Europe.”
