A drama occurred in Ziguinchor on September 8th, around 8 pm. According to the newspaper Libération, a priest passing through the southern capital was found dead in an inn. Alerted, the police and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene before transporting the lifeless body to the morgue of the Ziguinchor Regional Hospital.
According to Libération, the men of Ziguinchor police commissioner, Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Thiam, informed of the discovery of a lifeless body at the “Alternative” inn, immediately alerted the prosecutor. On site, the police found a male lying on the floor near the room number 11 that he had rented. The deceased was lying on his back, dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jacket pants. Checks allowed for identification: he was Jean Paul Preira, born in Mbour.
Still according to Libération, the owner of the inn stated during his hearing that the deceased used to contact him, by phone or message, before his visits to reserve a room. “He came almost daily, alone, and usually spent a day in transit before going to Kolda or Oussouye,” he said. The investigation revealed that the priest was unwell and had even gone to a pharmacy to buy medication. Upon his return, as he was at the entrance of his room, he suddenly collapsed to the ground, passing away on the spot. No apparent signs of violence were found on his body, Libération reports.
