Minimum wage increases to 42,000 CFA francs, a nearly 40% increase

On October 22, 2025, the government of Niger announced a significant increase in the Guaranteed Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMIG), raising it from 30,047 to 42,000 CFA francs, representing an increase of 39.78%.

This decision, made during the Council of Ministers, aims to address the concerns of social partners and improve the living conditions of workers. The SMIG is now set at 8,370.526 CFA francs per hour for workers subject to a legal weekly working hours of 40 hours.

For workers in agricultural and related enterprises, the hourly rate is set at 236.865 CFA francs. This increase is part of a series of measures aimed at strengthening the social protection of workers and improving their purchasing power. At the same time, the government has adopted a decree setting minimum wages by professional category, in accordance with the interprofessional collective agreement.
