As part of a seizure procedure initiated by the Financial Prosecutor’s Office, investigations into Madiambal Diagne, former publisher of Le Quotidien, have expanded to the banking and financial sector. Several institutions have received requisitions ordering the immediate freezing of accounts linked to his family and his companies.
According to L’Observateur, the banks involved include UBA, NSIA Bank, CBAO, and Banque Atlantique. The targeted accounts are mainly those of companies managed by his son, Mouhamed Diagne, as well as those of his wife, Mabintou Diaby. The Prosecutor’s action also includes the seizure of a luxury vehicle, a Mercedes driven by Mabintou Diaby, considered a significant asset in the family’s estate inventory.
In response to these developments, Madiambal Diagne has strongly contested the legitimacy of this procedure. In a letter quoted by L’Observateur, he denounces “a political plot” and “a witch hunt” aimed at discrediting him. The journalist assures that he will present “all the evidence of the legality of [his] assets”, stating that this affair is only intended to “sully [his] name and that of [his] family”.
