The controversy surrounding the CEO of ADEPME, Alpha Thiam, has intensified in recent hours in Senegal, primarily following virulent reactions from some supporters of the Pastef party.
These supporters, staunch backers of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, have sharply criticized the positions taken by the member of the Diomaye Président coalition, in a political context marked by still fragile balances among the various power poles.
Initially, the statements made by Alpha Thiam calling for a form of political recomposition and a dynamic of unity around President Bassirou Diomaye Faye have sparked divergent interpretations. In his remarks, Alpha Thiam advocated for a gathering beyond traditional divides, believing it is necessary to unite political forces around the head of state.
He stated, in essence, that it is necessary to “build a broad union around the president” and encourage figures from different backgrounds to join this dynamic. This direction, for his supporters, aligns with a logic of stability and consolidation of the existing power.
While some saw it as a call for unity, a faction of Pastef militants and supporters perceived it as a position likely to destabilize internal relations within the power structure.
