Arrest of HIV-positive prostitute creates panic in Cap-Skirring

In Cap-Skirring, the gendarmerie relentlessly continues its hunt against human trafficking networks and clandestine prostitution that thrive, hidden in the shadows of tourist villages. Eighteen (18) women, including one (1) HIV-positive, were arrested during a raid, reviving fears and concerns barely calmed after the Nelly scandal. According to information reported by L’Observateur, this operation is part of a series of actions aimed at dismantling networks that are increasingly present in the area.

The gendarmerie of the seaside resort of Cap-Skirring continues, relentless and determined, its hunt against clandestine prostitution that is rooting with insidious tenacity in the darkest and most inaccessible corners of the tourist village. Five days ago, alerted by an anonymous tip-off, the Territorial Brigade launched a meticulously precise operation, revealing the existence of a true clandestine hub where young women from Nigeria and Sierra Leone had taken refuge. Hidden in a peripheral hideout, they operated out of sight, moving in the interstices of a flourishing underground economy, imperceptible but dreadfully organized, as confirmed by L’Observateur in today’s edition.

One of them, HIV-positive, had tablets that she took to avoid contaminating her clients

The raid, orchestrated with almost surgical precision by the men in blue, led to the arrest of eighteen (18) women, including one (1) minor immediately entrusted to a educational assistance structure. The seventeen (17) others, all in irregular situations, were referred and placed in custody yesterday, marking the dismantling of a network whose extent was whispered in the shadows without ever being revealed in broad daylight. Among them, one, HIV-positive, had tablets that she took in a desperate attempt to avoid contaminating her clients.

They are being prosecuted for illegal stay, lack of health records, and, for one of them, endangering the lives of others. According to sources cited by L’Observateur, the latter, HIV-positive, consumed medication in the hope of reducing the risk of transmission, an element that did not exempt her from responsibility, as authorities considered the offense in light of the potential danger.

Presented to the judge before being transferred to the Ziguinchor prison, they will await their fate on December 2nd. It is worth noting that just two weeks earlier, the police of the Dntl had already dismantled a vast human trafficking network involved in clandestine prostitution and led by a woman of Sierra Leonean origin. A repetition that illustrates, with alarming clarity, the extent, persistence, and entanglement of this scourge in this border area, where shadows proliferate sheltered from the law, as highlighted by L’Observateur.
