Interrogated for statements deemed seditious and acts with independence connotations, Amidou Djiba was questioned three times by the Research Section of the gendarmerie.
According to Libération, he is accused of singing an alleged separatist anthem, waving an independence flag, and verbally attacking the President of the Republic. Still according to Libération, even though he admits to being a member of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC), Amidou Djiba tried to downplay his actions during his hearings. He reportedly claimed that he was unaware that his statements could be perceived as an attack on the Republic.
A defense line that, according to investigators cited by Libération, shows a clear willingness to absolve himself of the accusations. Faced with the gendarmes, Amidou Djiba also made numerous statements of loyalty and respect towards the Head of State. He emphasized that, being Sérère, he considers the President of the Republic as a “cousin” due to his Diola origins. Libération reports that he expressed his admiration and esteem for the President, while regretting the statements he is accused of. Confronted with the seriousness of the accusations, Amidou Djiba eventually expressed his regrets and requested leniency from the justice system.
