In commemoration of Robert Louis Stevenson’s sudden passing this week in history on the 3rd of December 1894, we republish a speech by Hon Misa Telefoni Retzlaff delivered as a guest lecturer at a memorial service at the RLS museum? 3 December 1998. The speech is also published as Appendix A of the reprint paperback version of HJ Moors book, With Stevenson in Samoa.
This is particularly special because Misa Telefoni Retzlaff, Samoa’s long serving Member of Parliament and former Deputy Prime Minister, was the great grandson of HJ Moors. The Telefoni Retzlaff Trust has reprinted the 1911 HJ Moors book in paperback version.
Even more special this week is that Misa Telefoni and his first cousin, Afioga Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Taisi Efi will both be at Samoa Stationery and Books SSAB for a book signing at 9.30am this Saturday 6 December 2025.
