YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW
Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
People often convince themselves that their choices have no lasting consequences. We may think we can live for ourselves, ignore God’s commands, indulge sinful desires, and somehow avoid the outcome. But God is not mocked.
The principle of sowing and reaping is woven into God’s creation. A farmer doesn’t plant orange seeds and expect corn. He reaps what he sows. In the same way, our thoughts, attitudes, decisions, and actions all produce a harvest. Paul presents two fields in which we can sow.
We can sow to the flesh. We can feed sinful desires, pursue selfish ambitions, and live according to our own fallen nature. But the harvest of the flesh is always destructive. Sin promises freedom but produces bondage. It promises satisfaction but leaves emptiness behind.
Or we can sow to the Spirit. We can invest our lives in the things of God, His Word, prayer, obedience, worship, and service. The Spirit produces a very different harvest, one that leads to life, growth, and eternal reward.
This passage isn’t teaching salvation by works. Paul has spent the entire letter defending salvation by grace through faith. Rather, he’s teaching that the direction of our lives reveals what we are cultivating and what harvest we should expect.
Every day we are sowing seeds. The question is, what kind of harvest are we pursuing? The choices we make today shape the harvest we will experience tomorrow. Sow to the Spirit and trust God for a harvest that honours Him.
Prayer:
Father, help us not to deceive ourselves about the seriousness of sin. Teach us to sow faithfully into the things of Your Spirit and to turn away from the desires of the flesh. May our lives produce a harvest that brings glory to You and reflects the character of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a great day. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
