Samoa’s youngest weightlifter and youngest member of Team Samoa at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has delivered an impressive performance by finishing sixth in the women’s 86kg category.
Competing against 10 of the Commonwealth’s top lifters on Wednesday, 17-year-old Sefulu Seuao recorded a combined total of 219kg.
She successfully lifted 96kg in the snatch and followed it up with a 123kg clean & jerk to secure her sixth-place finish.
Seuao opened with a 96kg snatch lift but was unable to improve on her next two attempts. In the clean & jerk, she completed a strong 123kg lift to finish ahead of Vanuatu’s Ajah Pritchard Lolo, who placed seventh with a total of 217kg.
The gold medal was won by Australia’s Eileen Cikamatana, who set a new Commonwealth Games record with a total lift of 248kg.
England’s Madias Ngake claimed the silver medal with 239kg, while Canada’s Rose Beaudoin took home the bronze with 230kg.
Seuao’s result continues a strong campaign for Samoa’s women’s weightlifting team in Glasgow.
Earlier in the Games, Seine Stowers won Samoa’s first gold medal, while 19-year-old Anoni Faumui secured a top-10 finish in her Commonwealth Games debut.
Despite being the youngest member of Samoa’s weightlifting team, Seuao arrived in Glasgow with valuable international experience.
She won three medals at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau and also claimed a Silver medal at the 2026 IBFC Universal Weightlifting Cup held earlier this year in Samoa.
