In celebration of its 10th anniversary the Territorial Bank of American Samoa has announced the Lolo Matalasi Moliga Scholarship which will award 20 scholarships of $5,000 each to eligible students of the American Samoa Community College.
The scholarship is named in loving memory of the late Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga, American Samoa’s seventh Governor who served two terms from 2013 to 2021. Governor Lolo passed away March 6 this year at the age of 78.
TBAS says that when the territory faced the loss of a long standing bank, Governor Lolo’s administration championed the vision of a locally owned bank to serve the people of American Samoa and TBAS opened its doors in October 2016.
A decade later, the bank he helped make possible is honoring his memory in the way he would have valued most…by investing in our people.
President and CEO of TBAS Owen Peery said, “Ten years ago, TBAS opened its doors because our community believed American Samoa deserved a bank of its own. Governor Lolo shared that belief and he never stopped believing in our young people. There is no better way to mark this milestone than to honor his memory by helping ASCC students become the nurses, teachers, entrepreneurs and yes bankers who will carry our community forward. To every family and business that has placed its trust in us over these ten years,we thank you. This scholarship is our latest way of giving back”.
ASCC President Tialemasunu Dr Mikaele Etuale welcomed the partnership. “This scholarship will give our students the opportunity to pursue their educational goals while preparing them for the workforce. I strongly believe this partnership between our two institutions will produce graduates with the skills our local workforce needs”.
Applications for the Lolo Matalasi Moliga Scholarship open Monday, October 5 and will close on January 31, 2027. Those eligible to apply are returning ASCC students and new enrollments for Fall 2007. Applications are available online at mytbas.com and from TBAS two branches at Utulei and Tafuna.
