The Government of Samoa joined regional and international partners at SPREP in Apia on 4 November to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC).
Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Toelupe Poumulinuku Onesemo delivered remarks on behalf of the government, commending the Centre as a symbol of partnership, vision, and resilience for the Pacific.
He noted that what began as a shared vision between two nations has become a regional hub for climate leadership, innovation, and strengthened resilience across all Pacific Island countries and territories.
Toelupe said Samoa takes pride in hosting the Centre, recognising its role in advancing Pacific regionalism and collective climate action. Over the past five years, the PCCC has become a space for learning and collaboration, where Pacific voices are amplified on the global stage.
“The urgency for transformative action has never been greater,” he said. “The PCCC must continue to serve as a trusted partner, a source of innovation, and a catalyst for regional unity.”
He reaffirmed Samoa’s ongoing support for the Centre and called for continued investment to address the impacts of climate change in Pacific communities.
The Deputy Prime Minister extended appreciation to the Government of Japan for its partnership and generosity, SPREP for its stewardship, and the Governments of New Zealand and Australia for their continued collaboration.
He concluded by expressing hope that the Centre will continue to strengthen as a Pacific hub for climate action, fostering regional solutions and empowering island nations to stand together in resilience and unity.
