The Governor’s response about the FY2026 budget was distributed to Senators and House Representatives Friday morning. And it can be said that it put a damper on the last day of the Second Regular Session of the 39th Legislature.
In the Senate, Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean was thankful for the inspiration from the morning prayer offered by the Senate chaplain, which renewed his spirit. Staff said that Tuaolo was visibly upset when he read the Governor’s correspondence.
The House of Representatives sent over an urgent communication for a joint meeting to discuss the Governor’s letter.
Senator Togiola Tulafono said having read the language of the Governor’s letter, it was a Trump- like response.
He moved to accept the request from the House for a joint meeting.
It was agreed that the joint meeting would be held at 9 am Monday, Oct 20.
Before the Senate session ended, Senator Gaoteote Palaie spoke on behalf of the Senate to thank Tuaolo for his stable leadership throughout this year, and also the Senate President Pro Tem and the Senate Rules Committee for their preparations of the Senate proceedings each day .
Appreciation was also extended to the Senate staff.
The Senate President reserved a response to Gaoteote’s speech for their farewell luncheon which followed the session.
The Hosue of Representatives celebrated the end of this year’s t sessions with a gathering at Dr Vaasa’s Hideaway Fast Food and Bakery in Utumea , owned by Rep Dr Vaasa Simanu.
