Fiu Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa is a member of the Faatuatua i Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi party.
Fiu officially ran as an independent candidate in the 2025 Samoan general election, though with the full endorsement and backing of the FAST Party.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly after winning the Palauli 2 seat from Savaii by a single vote.
Before entering politics, Fiu was a public servant who worked as head of the Births, Marriage and Death Office.
Samoa Global News had called the election yesterday before the official count had completed for the final constituency of Anoamaa 2. The HRPP Deputy Leader Lauofo Fonotoe Pierre Meredith had led the pre-polling by more than 300 votes and the final count was not going to change.
SGN reported that FAST had secured 31 seats including the Palauli 2 seat won by Fiu Ponifasio.
