Ephesians 1:18 “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people.”

Paul continues his prayer for the believers by asking that “the eyes of their heart” be opened. It’s a beautiful phrase—because it reminds us that true understanding doesn’t come only from the mind, but from the heart that’s been enlightened by God. When the Holy Spirit enlightens our hearts, we begin to see spiritual realities clearly: who God is, who we are in Christ, and what He has promised us.

Paul mentions three things we come to know when our spiritual eyes are opened: hope, inheritance, and power. In this verse, he focuses on the first two.

The hope of His calling—this isn’t wishful thinking, but confident assurance. God has called us out of darkness and into His marvellous light. Our future is secure in Him.

The riches of His glorious inheritance—we aren’t poor in spirit; we are heirs of God, part of His holy people, and destined to share in His glory.

When we truly see these truths, discouragement loses its grip. Fear fades. Our hearts fill with gratitude and confidence, knowing that we belong to a God who has called us, claimed us, and prepared an eternal inheritance for us.

Prayer:
Father, open the eyes of my heart today. Help me see the hope of Your calling and the riches of the inheritance You have given me in Christ. Let this truth fill me with peace, joy, and confidence as I walk with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
