Source: Australian High Commission in Samoa. It is not often that couples get to celebrate success side by side.
But Vanita and her husband Fanolua did just that when they recently graduated together. Each with a Masters of Project Management degree from Central Queensland University.
Fanolua, from Solosolo and Vaivase-uta, pursued his studies inspired by his father’s encouragement to value education.
Vanita, of Asaga and Lalomalava, described the shared achievement as an “incredibly special moment” for their young family.
“When we reached the grounds of Australia it was truly different—we were so excited knowing that we had reached the finish line together..
“We will always cherish this experience,” said Vanita, who is also a Manager at the Samoa National Provident Fund.
She credited her hardworking parents for instilling strong family values, and paid tribute to their 92-year-old grandmother.
Both Vanita and Fanolua hope their success will inspire their son, Semisi, as well as their younger relatives to always aim high.
A recipient of the Australian Scholarship, Vanita encouraged others to never give up on further studies.
“It’s never too late to go back to school,” she said.
“I chose Project Management because it is critical to Samoa’s development, especially in infrastructure… I hope the knowledge gained will contribute to the sustainable economic growth of Samoa.”
The couple expressed gratitude to the Australian High Commission for their scholarship support and acknowledged the past and present CEOs of Samoa National Provident Fund for their encouragement throughout Vanita’s journey.
