American Samoa Community College’s Financial Aid Office is asking local businesses and worksites to take on students through the Federal Work-Study Program, a federally funded initiative that places students in part-time jobs tied to their course of study.

The program pays students $7.25 an hour, funded through the federal program rather than the host business, and runs through the end of the semester. Students can build job skills for the workforce while earning money for school, according to the college.

Federal guidelines require that work hours not conflict with a student’s class schedule.

The Financial Aid Office says the program also serves community service goals while helping students facing financial need.
