The Criminal Justice Planning Agency has clarified that more than $1 million of the $10 million for the Non Profit Assistance Program of ARPA was approved for administrative costs.
As was announced in a press release earlier this week $8.6 million was awarded to 69 qualified recipients. KHJ News asked what happened to the rest of the funding.
The ARPA Office has explained that the balance was allocated for administrative costs as outlined in CJPA’s approved budget from the ARPA Oversight Office.
“These administrative costs cover recruitment of short term cases workers and case managers, purchase of supplies, capital outlays and other critical resources to ensure proper administration, monitoring and compliance oversight of the program.”
It was also explained that the Non Profit Assistance Program is being carried out under a limited timeframe, in accordance with federal ARPA guidelines.
“The short window in which the funds must be obligated and expended has necessitated swift execution and has further emphasized the need for adequate staffing and operational support. Following the first round of CJPA-ARPA funding, we recognized that our existing staffing levels were insufficient to meet the scope of the program, and thus additional human capital and resources are essential to effectively manage the program through to completion,” said CJPA.
