AT A TIMEWHEN A MASSIVE US military arsenal is arrayed on the doorsteps of Venezuela, a delegation of 10 Vincentians is currently in that South American nation attending a major peace conference.

Acting President of the Simón Bolívar Institute Foundation for Peace and Solidarity Among Peoples, Bianca Rosa Eekhout Gómez, said it is “…a historic space to articulate a global movement for lasting peace with sovereignty, opening horizons of solidarity, dialogue, cooperation, and collective action in the face of global challenges”.

The delegation includes three descendants of the Garifuna people who arrived in Venezuela about three days ahead of the others to attend a separate conference on indigenous peoples before the rest of the delegation . The Assembly of the Peoples for the Sovereignty and Peace of Our America begins today,Tuesday, December 9, 2025, and ends on Wednesday, December 10.
