St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has been officially approached by the United States of America (USA) in relation to accommodating third-country deportees.

This was stated on Thursday, February 19, 2026 by Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday who is also Minister of Finance, Legal Affairs, Justice, Economic Planning and Private Sector Development.

Speaking on the NBC radio Dr. Friday said discussions are ongoing, and the issue will be handled carefully in coordination with OECS and CARICOM partners.

He stressed that any decision must protect national security while maintaining strong diplomatic relations.

Dr. Friday also noted that as he prepares to attend his first CARICOM Heads of Government meeting as prime minister, the deportee issue is not a secret.
