THE LIST OF PEOPLE that make up the Boards of Statutory and Quasigovernment bodies has on it, at least two persons with pending criminal matters. The list was released over the weekend and has come under scrutiny from many corners including online and from declared supporters of the New Democratic Party (NDP).

One of the names that comes up for scrutiny is Carly John, the husband of Minister of Social Welfare, Community Empowerment, Ecclesiastical Affairs and National Heritage Shevern John. Carly John,50, a businessman has been named on the board of directors of the St Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC).

In 2021, John was charged that on September 9, in Kingstown, he assaulted Rockel Coombs, a police officer of Ottley Hall,

causing actual bodily harm. Additionally, that he resisted the arrest of, and assaulted PC700 Verrol Sam, he being a police officer acting in due execution of his duty. That matter is still before the court and stems from a political protest that was taking place in Kingstown on September 9, 2001.
