The government is expected to bring a Bill before the House of Assembly that on passage will allow the National Insurance Services (NIS) to make gratuitous payments to workers at the lower end of the pay scale in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

A gratuity payment from the NIS is a one-time lump sum payment made to a contributor instead of a monthly pension. It is usually paid when a person has reached pension age but has not made enough contributions to qualify for a regular monthly pension.

This was mentioned on February 26, 2026 by Deputy Prime Minister St. Clair Leacock during a National Insurance Services (NIS) Reform in Focus Symposium, held at the NIS conference room.

Leacock who was sitting in for Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday who was away on state business said that a few hours before the symposium, led by Attorney General Louis Mitchell, they held an exercise in which they invited the public and other stakeholders to look at the Bill which they intend to bring before parliament to introduce the gratuitous payment.
