Justin James of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) emerged victorious at the Saint Lucia Chess Federation’s (SLCF) Classic Rated Chess Tournament, held over two days — Sunday, October 12th and 19th, 2025 — at the Cocoville Office in Rodney Bay. ✨♟
James demonstrated exceptional skill and composure throughout the competition to secure first place. Sixtus Gabriel of the Black Knight Chess Club claimed second place, while D’yorni Cilpa of St. Mary’s College (SMC) earned third. 👏
Adding to the excitement of the final day, the SLCF welcomed a special guest — Carlos Rivero, President of the Cuba Chess Federation and Head of Zone 2.3 of the Confederation of Chess for the Americas. Rivero’s brief visit to Saint Lucia was met with enthusiasm from the local chess community, who were honored by his presence and support for the sport’s development in the region.
The tournament marks another successful event for the SLCF as it continues to promote and expand the game of chess across the island. ♟🇱🇨
