Family appeals for help in search for missing Gros Islet man

Lawrence Hyacinth, 73, lives in Morne Giraud, Gros Islet. His family last saw him on Tuesday, June 2, in the afternoon after 2 p.m. He was wearing shorts, slippers, and a family reunion shirt with ‘Hyacinth’ on the back.

Relatives say friends also saw him on Wednesday morning. This gave them hope that he might have travelled beyond his neighbourhood.

Since he went missing, people from northern communities have been searching for him. Family, friends, neighbors, and other residents have checked many places, but they have not found him yet.

His sister, Marylin Hyacinth, said the family is very worried, especially because of his health. “I would like to appeal to members of the public, the bus drivers in particular, to assist us in looking out for him,” she said.

She explained that her brother is especially at risk because “he suffers from dementia and is also diabetic.” These health issues have made the family even more worried as each day passes without any news.

Hyacinth said they contacted the authorities right away. “From the inception, the report was made to the police, and we have been following up with them as to the status while we continue to do our own search,” she said.

Along with searching on foot, the family has tried to spread the word across the island. They have given out flyers with Lawrence Hyacinth’s photo and contact details in many communities, hoping someone has seen him and can let them know.

Police are also helping with the search. The family says officers have been checking surveillance footage, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The family is asking anyone who has seen Lawrence Hyacinth or knows where he might be to come forward as soon as possible.
