Bexon-born Peter Adolph marks 100 years

Saint Lucia welcomed another centenarian, as Peter Emery Adolph celebrated his 100th birthday at the Comfort Bay Senior Citizens’ Home last Friday.

Born on July 24, 1926, in Bexon, Castries, Adolph marked the milestone surrounded by family, staff, fellow residents and well-wishers.

Affectionately known as “Joseph”, Adolph is the only surviving sibling of eight children born to Eva Joseph and Saul Adolph.

According to the Department of Equity, Social Justice, Gender and Older Persons, Adolph worked in Saint Lucia’s sugar cane industry as a young man before a life-changing event led to his admission to the former Golden Hope institution at the age of 25.

He has lived at the Comfort Bay Senior Citizens’ Home since 2012, where he has become a cherished member of the resident community.

Now living with blindness and limited mobility, Adolph is known as one of the home’s quieter residents. Staff say he occasionally delights them by requesting some of his favourite foods and other simple comforts.

Last Friday’s celebration also recognised three other residents marking their birthdays, highlighting what the Department of Equity, Social Justice, Gender and Older Persons described as the spirit of care and companionship at the home.
