Qatar’s Amir joins mourners at funeral prayers of helicopter crash victims – Doha News

The victims included four Qatari and three Turkish nationals.

Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani performed the funeral prayer for the martyrs of Sunday’s helicopter crash, which included four members of the Qatari Armed Forces.

The prayers were held at the Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque and the victims were laid to rest at the Mesaimeer Cemetery.

Senior officials in attendance included the Amir’s Personal Representative, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Other officials present included Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Qatar Olympic Committee, as well as Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan Al-Ghanim.

The Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Mustafa Goksu, also attended, alongside members of the Qatari Armed Forces and the Qatar–Türkiye Joint Forces.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence announced early on Sunday that a Qatari helicopter had suffered a technical malfunction during a routine mission, resulting in its crash in regional waters.

Qatar’s authorities later confirmed that all seven people on board had died after a search-and-rescue operation that lasted several hours.

The Qatari victims were identified as Captain (Pilot) Mubarak Salem Dawai Al-Marri, Captain (Pilot) Saeed Nasser Smeikh, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem Al-Khayareen, and Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed.

Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence named the three Turkish nationals killed as Air Cavalry Major Sinan Tastekin and ASELSAN technicians Suleyman Cemre Kahraman and Ismail Enes Can.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was deeply saddened by the crash and expressed solidarity with the people of Qatar following the tragedy.

Qatar’s Prime Minister mourned the victims of the crash writing on X: “We mourn with deep sorrow the heroes of our armed forces, their brothers in the Qatar–Türkiye Joint Forces, and the collaborators who were martyred[…]We ask God to grant them mercy and to protect Qatar and its security. We extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to their families over this painful incident.”

Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani offered his condolences to the martyrs’ families as well, saying: “We mourn the martyrs of duty from the Qatari Armed Forces, their brothers from the Qatar–Türkiye Joint Forces, and the cooperating personnel who were martyred while carrying out their national duty. We ask Allah to accept them into the highest Paradise and to grant patience to their families. Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
