Qatar condemns Israeli extremists’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque – Doha News

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned on Monday that the continuation of such violations and repeated provocations could fuel further violence and escalation in the region.

Qatar condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists, along with the provocative actions carried out under the protection of the occupation forces.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described it as a flagrant violation of international law, an unacceptable provocation of the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.

It also warned that it is a dangerous attempt to “impose a new reality in the occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities”.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses that Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusively Muslim place of worship and that all unilateral measures aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities are null and void under international law,” said the statement.

Israeli settlers stormed the Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on Sunday, performing Talmudic rituals and chanting their religious slogans under heavy protection from ‘Israeli’ police.

Omar Rajoub, director of the Media Department at the Jerusalem Governorate, told Anadolu agency that “raising the Israeli flag inside the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, along with performing provocative rituals, is part of a systematic and deliberate official Israeli policy led by the extremist occupation government”.

“These practices aim to impose new realities by force in occupied East Jerusalem and undermine the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he added.

He warned that “occupiers’ actions inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque are part of an ongoing colonial plan targeting the spatial and temporal division of the mosque, the Judaization of the city to obliterate its religious and historical identity, and the alteration of its legal, cultural, and demographic character”.

Al-Aqsa Mosque has been subjected to increasingly frequent storming by colonists, a development that is viewed as a serious escalation and a violation of the sanctity of the mosque.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned on Monday that the continuation of such violations and repeated provocations could fuel further violence and escalation in the region, undermining prospects for de-escalation and stability.

It renewed its call on the international community to act urgently and compel Israel, as the occupying power, to stop its ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites and to comply with relevant international resolutions.

Since 2003, Israeli police have unilaterally allowed the occupiers to enter the mosque daily during two periods—morning and afternoon prayers—except on Fridays and Saturdays.

Palestinians say Israel is intensifying efforts to Judaize East Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, and erase its Arab and Islamic identity.

The Palestinians regard East Jerusalem as the capital of their state, based on international resolutions that do not recognize Israel’s occupation of the city in 1967 or its annexation in 1980.

In its condemnation, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm and supportive stance on the Palestinian cause based on ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to attain their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
