According to the same source, UK citizens would like their country to follow EU rules if it meant lower prices for essential goods, such as food.
The poll comes after Sir Keir Starmer said he wants to get closer to the European bloc, despite facing pressure, even from within his party.
Even though the Labour Party manifesto mentioned not wanting to rejoin the EU single market or customs union, Starmer’s rivals, such as the Health Secretary Wes Streeting, called for the reconsideration of those decisions. This way, the UK is expected to align with the EU’s agri-food rules and agree that the EU will drop most border checks on animal and plant shipments.
During the summer, there will be a UK-EU summit so that both blocs can discuss the next steps for the post-Brexit relationship.
