IP4 is closed to traffic in the Marão mountain range area, and traffic is restricted on A24 between Vila Real and Vila Pouca de Aguiar due to snow, according to the GNR.

In a statement made to the Lusa news agency at 9:45 am, the GNR in Vila Real said that the IP4 is closed between the junctions of Campeã, in the municipality of Vila Real, and Aboadela, in the municipality of Amarante, in an area corresponding to the Marão mountain range.

The A24, although passable, was also affected at 09:45 due to snow accumulation, with some lorries and cars stopped or stuck on the road between Vila Real and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.

The GNR said, however, that a snowplough was clearing the motorway.

The district of Vila Real is on red alert due to snowfall forecasts and, as a precaution, schools and school transport have been suspended today in the municipalities of Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Mondim de Basto, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
