The research examined factors such as the average distance between a city’s five most popular attractions, elevation, estimated travel time, and step counts to determine the walkability of each destination. The results reveal which European cities are best for walking and which ones might require other modes of transport to get around efficiently.
Milan and Porto, Europe’s most walkable cities, take just 30-34 minutes to walk between the top five attractions.
Porto, Portugal
In joint first place is Porto, Portugal, where the five main attractions are slightly closer together, covering just 1.9 kilometres in around 30 minutes. The route starts at the Capela das Almas, the beautiful, ornate blue-and-white church, also known as the Chapel of Souls. The route then takes you to the famous Porto Cathedral. After exploring the historic cathedral, tourists will make their way to Luís I Bridge and the Cais da Ribeira (a popular riverside district packed with cafes and restaurants) and finish their adventure at the Douro River.
