Municipality Reinforces Monitoring of School Meals

Meals continue to be prepared on-site at the schools, but are now provided by a specialised external company. Since January 2026, this model has covered the Dr Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School and the João Eusébio, José Carlos da Maia, and Paula Nogueira primary and secondary schools.

In the remaining schools in the municipality—namely the primary schools and the Alberto Iria and João da Rosa primary and secondary schools—the same system was already in operation.

Catarina Poço, Vice-President of the Olhão Municipal Council and Councillor for Education, emphasises that “the meals served to children and young people are of high quality and delicious,” also ensuring that the entire service complies with hygiene and food safety standards.

According to the councillor, the menus are balanced and monitored by nutritionists from the company responsible and the Municipality, ensuring a diet adequate for students’ needs.

Continuous monitoring of the service aims to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and nutritional balance across all schools in the municipality.
