With this victory, the region becomes the only beach destination in the world to be distinguished in four editions (2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025), surpassing iconic destinations such as the Maldives and the Turks and Caicos Islands, both with three titles.
The distinction was announced on Saturday, December 6, during the Final Gala of the World Travel Awards 2025, considered the “Oscars of Tourism”, which this year took place in Bahrain.
After a voting period involving tourism professionals, specialised press, and travellers from around the world, the Algarve stood out among 19 nominated destinations, including Porto Santo and other world-renowned beach locations such as Thailand, Cancun (Mexico), Seychelles, the Philippines, and Zanzibar.
For André Gomes, president of Algarve Tourism, “more than a victory, it is a clear confirmation that the Algarve is at the forefront globally when we talk about beach destinations,” emphasising that this award represents “the responsibility to continue raising the bar, preserving our natural resources, and exceeding the expectations of those who visit us year after year.”
It is worth noting that the Algarve also holds 10 distinctions as Best Beach Destination in Europe awarded over the last decade (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). According to the region, this continued international recognition reinforces a set of attributes that place the 200 km of Algarve coastline among the favourites of travellers from all over the world: the unique and diverse combination of natural scenery of immense beauty; the range of experiences for all types of visitors; and the region’s strong commitment to sustainability, environmental quality, and the accessibility of its beaches.
