Abandoned palace for sale in Portugal

The property, which was designated a Monument of Public Interest in 2022, has been abandoned for 30 years and is now available for sale.

The Palacete do Jardim was built in the 1920s and commissioned by the family of Joseph Bouhon, a Belgian industrialist who owned a factory in the city. The businessman’s family lived in the mansion for several years and, later, according to idealista, the building housed the Labour Court and the INATEL office. However, the property has been unoccupied for 30 years.

The Palacete do Jardim covers 850 m², set on a plot of 10,680 m², as advertised by Prummo Imóveis. In total, there are nine bedrooms, six bathrooms and a variety of balconies and porches.

Having been abandoned for 30 years, the mansion already shows signs of deterioration and therefore requires restoration work. The listing states that the mansion could be converted into a “charming residence, institutional headquarters, or a tourism or cultural investment.”
